gladlyCast has been in operation for more than a year and your generous support has been appreciated. Lately we have been busy with our own work and have found it hard to contribute to this project. It is regrettable that the gladlyCast Singapore mobile phone number has expired as we did not top up the service in time.

Unfortunately we cannot recover the current Singapore phone number. You can’t imagine how silly we are feeling right now.

The remedy plan was to get a new number as soon as we possibly can and announced it. Our new number for Singapore is +65 9035 5240.

We ask you, our users, to tell your friends about it, help us explain the situation, and forgive our oversight.

No need to tell us your passwords (for Twitter).
We don’t insert any self-promotional URL in your tweets.

We are most excited to announce support for one more conversation universe – Plurk.

We have been discussing on the possibility of supporting Plurk since a month ago. One of the priorities we had is ease of use and reliability that is similar to what we offered for Twitter. We finally agreed our Plurk feature is good to be released for your usage.

Plurk SMS support is offered to Singapore and Malaysian users. To update Plurk with your handphone, just sign in with your existing Plurk email and password. Unlike for Twitter, gladlyCast requires your email and password here.

If you have associated your phone number with Twitter already, sending an SMS to gladlyCast will not only update Twitter but your Plurk too. Have fun (:

Tips for users with Twitter and Plurk:

• SMS in “w twitter message” or “w t hi” to update Twitter
• SMS in “w plurk hi” or “w p hi” to update Plurk.

gladlyCast now lets you choose which account to update with.

Some users have associated the same phone number to more than one Twitter account and wanted to choose which Twitter account they can update with.

Introducing Update (W)ith

Here’s the format:
w username your message here

If you have 2 Twitter accounts – JohnDoe and ThePublishingCompany and have both associated with the same phone number at gladlyCast, you can SMS in:

• w johndoe good morning
  to tweet as JohnDoe
• w thepublishingcompany we have a year-end promo
  to tweet as ThePublishingCompany

But my username is so loooong

Just type in the first 3 characters (or more) of your username, for example:

• w the we have a year-end promo
  to tweet as ThePublishingCompany.
• w john good morning
  to tweet as JohnDoe.

The Singapore SMS device was malfunctioned this morning. We did not get notified until @chrissyypoo alerted us. Sorry for the delayed messages, we have successfully delivered all delayed messages from Singapore.

We are currently investigating what went wrong and update you guys on what actually occurred.

The Singapore SMS feature is up and will be monitored closely.

Update: A glitch occurred on the software that checks the SMS device and it stops checking for new messages until we restarted it.

We added a new feature in gladlyCast (for both Singapore and Malaysia) during our previous maintenance. We noticed a few users trying to direct message their friends and Twitter just wouldn’t deliver these messages out. From now on, it will be handled correctly as a direct message.

To send a direct message use:

d username message

For example:

d gladlycast When are you going to support DM via SMS?

This would send a direct message “When are you going to support DM via SMS?” to us if we (gladlyCast) are following you.

Note that while you can send a DM to your friend on Twitter, you cannot receive a DM with your phone. If you’re still unsure about how direct message works in Twitter, take a look at this helpful article from Twitter.

We are happy to announce that another local number has been added to our SMS-to-Twitter service — Malaysia.

Malaysians can now enjoy Twitter via text messages too by sending in tweets to a local number in Malaysia: +60 12 795 9876 (or 012-7959876, omitting country code).

To begin using gladlyCast, simply go to http://gladlycast.com, sign in with your existing Twitter account and associate your handphone.

Due to the recent Twitter attacks, Twitter is redirecting traffic away. This pending update takes care of the redirection to increase reliability. gladlyCast will be up again on today (Aug 10), 1:15 am. This minor update does not affect your SMSes, however, your updates to Twitter will be delayed till 1:15 am. Please be patient.

Update 1:11 am: Core Twitter service updated. Now testing update.

Update 1:27 am: Everything is back up.

Oh and by the way, if you’re having problems with signing in with Twitter and happen to have a 3G modem, use it to sign in. The sign in problem is partly due to SingNet or Starhub. You can then use back your normal internet connection to access Twitter subsequently.
